As McNuggets are to real food.

I must have needed some balance after re-watching Alien or something because I watched (skimmed) through Armageddon tonight and I feel a sense of good vs bad balancing out...why did I do that?

Wrong ... they are different genres. Aliens is a hard-core scifi/horror flick and is quite good but doesn’t have any funny parts. Armageddon is an ensemble guy action flick that just happens to take place in space. Think Dirty Dozen but the enemy is a big honkin’ piece of asteroid. As such it is also quite good.

Oh come on now ... any movie that simultaneously spoofs war movies, sci-fi movies, blockbusters, romance movies, NASA, the military industrial complex, the IRS, the oil industry, China, Paris, New York, Texas and the Gulf Coast (and has a scene in what I can only assume is supposed to be Treasures Gentlemen’s Club in Houston) cannot be that bad!

if it were a spoof film, I would have laughed, This isn’t a spoof film though, its just a different kind of funny. sad funny. some good characters, no question, but the only thing this movie was a parody of was itself.

Does Armageddon hold up upon rewatches? Probably not as much. But it was better than The Core & well you gotta take what you can. :P
